Just as the topic said, I woke up this morning and the computer would not respond from its sleep when i moved the mouse or pressed enter. So I resarted and same thing, powers on, the fan speed runs on high and there is no display. The keyboard doesnt even light up to show that it is receiving signal. So, I do not think it iis hard drive(hope not) and I am not sure what it is. I thought it could be the Power Supply but I am not sure how to test that. I thought maybe it was the Motherboard and they said if I take the memory out and plug it in, it would beep a lot of times. Well, no beeps:/ But, I look at the motherboard and it has a green light whenever it is plugged in to the wall. So, I am stuck. I really dont wanna take it to Best Buy or something if it is osmething that I cant fix on my own. And as for on my own, a lil help from you guys before I throw in the towel. _________________ Whsper's wall of text crits you for: 890 |

So I switched the memory from the two slots they were in into the other 2 open memory slots and the computer booted right up. Ummmm, why? _________________ Whsper's wall of text crits you for: 138 |

maybe one of the sticks wasnt in all the way to begin with, and when you swapped them you just happened to push them in all the way _________________ Whsper's wall of text crits you for: 131 _________________

bestbuy hah.....
anyways with what you've said i cant really tell what the problem is.
do note tho: win7 has (had?) a bug with resuming from standby with certain cstate settings on mobos.
another thing: try putting the memory back in the other two slots, unplug the power, and remove the battery from the mobo. now hold the power button for 3-5 seconds. Put the battery back in, and plug it back in, try booting with the old slots.
this will reset your BIOS to factory (remember to reset your raid array to w/e it used to be), it should boot after that.
chop, your computer will refuse to boot at all if your dimms weren't in all the way. he would've have been able to put it on standby without first being able to boot. if, in the event that you had 2 dimms, and one wasnt in at all, the computer will attempt to boot off the single dimm, and this would be very noticable as you would have much less memory.
the reason im suggesting a BIOS reset and test is because of the bug i mentioned previously. if you do wind up getting stuck with the black screen coming out of standby, the mobo will lock up, forcing a fresh boot.
on most modern asus mobos, there is a fail-safe setting the mobo will use to boot after failing to POST a number of times (like what you experienced). so for when i had that issue, i would just power down, switch the psu to off, and power back on. the mobo would then do a self check, mem quick check, and a full POST and continue on its happy way. _________________ Whsper's wall of text crits you for: 1598 _________________ lurker aspect...! |
